I should start by saying that this carpet cleaner is giving off the wrong impression from top to toe. The name is wrong. There is no steamer at all and there is nothing quick about it. Then the words “cross action brush” in the front of the machine is misleading. The brush does not spin or turn or rotate by itself at all.

Well, I’m saying that so that you don’t set your expectations too high. But the Bissell QuickSteamer Upright Deep Cleaner really works, as long as you use it the right way. First, you’ll have to pre-treat any stains or spots with cleaner, then go over the carpet really slowly with the Bissell. The suction of this carpet cleaner is not as great as the expensive models, but it does get out the dirt and brown the water.

When I heard about this, I hurried to find out about this seemingly wonderful carpet cleaner, because one cannot own a best carpet cleaner blog and not know about the most popular carpet cleaner, right? I called up my friends and one of them has it! She didn’t mind that I want to visit her when she is cleaning her carpet, and was pretty flattered that I wanted to know about her carpet cleaner.

Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge cleans really well! Just as good as my Hoover SteamVac Dual V Widepath. My friend has two dogs, a Sheltie and a German shepherd that walk all over the place, and they bring in the dirt every day from the lawn. Her living room carpet is her dogs’ favorite place to snooze on, so you can imagine how bad it is. After a round with the Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge, the carpet looked like new!

She presses the Clean Surge button when she wants to get rid of tougher spots that she has pre-treated. That sends a stronger squirt of detergent onto the spot. Then she runs the carpet cleaner over the same spot without pressing and all the dirty water is vacuumed back. I noticed that she cleans her carpet at the same pace I do with my Dual V, that is, very slowly, because that will make cleaning more efficient and you don’t have to go through as many times.

The dirty water container is really smaller than the clean water container, just like the other reviewer said, so you’ll have to empty it before the clean water runs out, giving you extra runs to the drain hole.

Other than that, the Hoover SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge is a great carpet cleaner, and I’m slightly bummed to see that it is cheaper than my Dual V. But never mind, I am still in love with my Dual V.

I wished someone designed stain-proof carpet. I remain hopeful (for the sake of all busy moms!) but I know this is quite unlikely because if there’s such an invention, who would need vacuums after that? For now, carpet stains are REAL. And they can be TROUBLESOME.

In this post, I’m sharing 5 tips about carpet stains and how to clean each type of stain. Though I only list down 5 types of stains, truth is; there are other types of stains and you can read up more about them online. For starters, it’ll be good for you to know more about these 5 most common carpet stains and how to clean them.

1. Coffee Or Tea
Coffee stains can happen as you rush for work. Rule number 1 is to always act quickly to clean the stain (never rush off thinking you’ll clean up later!). You can read my post on 4 Tips for Carpet Deep Clean which tells you the same thing; quick action save you the hassle of doing extra work.

First, blot (not rub!) the area with a clean towel paper. Then, sprinkle some baking soda or salt on the stain and leave it for half an hour or so. This replaces the function of pre-treatment solution (if you prefer something organic). You can then use a deep clean vacuum to clean the area.

2. Urine
Pet urine is a common form of stain if you have pets roaming in the house. To clean up urine stains, you may want to consider using organic detergent (can be found in most pet shops). I have two methods to suggest here, and you can try either one:

First, layer tower paper on the stain and absorb as much wetness as possible. Then, use a deep cleaner and fill it with water (or good organic/enzyme stain remover) and use it on the stain. Or, you can make a mixture of vinegar and water and apply it on the still-wet area. Next, use a vacuum cleaner to absorb the wetness.

3. Beer Or Wine
Beer stain solution requires you to use vinegar. Or, you can choose chemical-based detergent to pre-treat the area. If you are using vinegar, make sure you dilute it with water and let it sit on the stain for about 10 minutes. Then, use a carpet deep cleaner and clean the area thoroughly. Dishwashing liquid is also a good option as it dissolves the stain easily.

4. Mud
Dried mud can be scrapped off the carpet surface. All you need to do is to let it dry, use a butter knife and gently scrape it off the carpet. Then, pre-treat the area with a remover and use a deep clean vacuum on the stain.

5. Sauces (i.e. Ketchup, Pasta, Barbecue)
As usual, remove as much of the sauce as possible. Using a blot-apply-vacuum technique, apply club soda or cold water on the stain and vacuum the after it dried. If the stain remains, move on to apply detergent, and then vacuum after it’s dry. You can also use ammonia mix (you should pre-test the area to prevent loss of color) followed by hydrogen peroxide. If all these steps seemed complex, buy a suitable detergent for area pre-treatment. Then, use a deep clean vacuum on it.

A single pass on the area and you’ll realize that it picks up far more. Not to mention that it’s easy to push and a silent powerhouse. I was expecting some noise but no! This machine works silently. I also used it conveniently on all my carpeting and some furniture, thanks to the accessories that comes with it. It goes under my bed easily.

2. Get Clean Air with HEPA Filter
This powerful machine comes with lifetime HEPA filter which keeps my house allergen free. This is really important to me (you’ll know why if you read my post on Best Bagged Upright Carpet Cleaner) and I’ll try to go for vacuums with good filtration system. I should let you know that vacuums with excellent filtration system usually cost much more than vacuum units with basic filter system. This explains why the Dyson DC17 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner can be labeled as expensive. But, I’ll explain why it’s money well-spent.

3. Invest Your Money in This Great Machine
If you buy from Amazon, you’ll get a refurbished model. Though the machine is remanufactured, it comes back in excellent quality from the manufacturer. In my opinion, it doesn’t display much difference from a brand new model (however, there are cases where refurbished items don’t perform up to expectation. You got to take on a slight risk there). I find it really easy to clean the vacuum after I’m done with chore (I make it a habit to clean it immediately after use) and I like the fact that I don’t have to buy expensive bags for this.

In general, stick vacuums are highly portable and convenient to use. I personally like cordless carpet cleaner because I don’t have to worry about tangled cords or cords lying around. Like all other electric/electronic devices, the lifespan of battery will shorten tremendously.

Lightweight yet Powerful
Choosing this vacuum proved to be a good decision because it performed really well. I wanted to buy a vacuum which deep cleans, minus the hefty price tag (some lightweight vacuums come cheap but they don’t perform as well). I took a chance with this machine and I’m glad I did! I used it in different parts of my house without problem. Though it’s not perceived to be a heavy-duty vacuum, it doesn’t lack power and works just as good as other heavy-duty vacuums I own. It’s efficient and easy to use as well.

Go Slow
To achieve maximum cleaning result, I’d spray the area I want to vacuum with the pre-treatment cleaning solution. That way, I get better results when I vacuum (though I must always work on the area slowly!). If I’m rushing for time, I won’t pull this out for quick cleaning. I need time to work Bissell 2080 Quicksteamer Powerbrush Lightweight Upright Deep Carpet Cleaner in order to achieve satisfactory results.

Previously, I’ve bought carpet steam vacuums but I find that they don’t perform up to my expectation. They either break down easily or don’t clean well enough. 1. Makes My Carpet As Good As New
I rarely say this but this vacuum exceeds my expectations. IT’S POWERFUL. It not only cleans my carpet thoroughly, it makes my carpet feel soft and as good as new. The detergent mixture is dispensed evenly on the carpet surface and there is a rinse feature to clear the residue. It’s also easy to operate and lug around as it glides smoothly on carpet (though it can be a bit heavy). There’s also a different reservoir for clean and dirty water so I can really see the amount of dirt I got rid of!

It’s also good for heavy-duty use and I’ve tried it on different carpeted areas in my house. As it cleans really well, it also gets rid of the bad odor in my house (you know how dirty carpet traps bad smell).

2. Easy to Clean and Maintain
Overall, it’s easy to clean because the water tanks can be emptied out easily. I secure them well to prevent spills. I also find most major parts to be detachable for quick cleaning. No complains there!

One Drawback
After the glowing review above, there’s one drawback to Hoover SteamVac Dual V Widepath Carpet Cleaner: the brush is fragile. The spin brush gets stuck easily and if forcefully used, can break. I’ve experienced this once and I regretted forcing it to work! I did call Amazon and they helped me fix the problem pretty fast. I’m impressed with the quick service. I’m a happy buyer of Amazon products and this is no exception.
